This compact, completely portable, water-saving dishwasher is perfect for small families, renters, dorm rooms, and those living in tiny houses and RVs.
World’s only fully self-contained dishwasher (patent pending). No fill or drain hoses needed. Just lift the lid, pour in three liters of water, load the unit, select a cleaning cycle, and turn it on. Because it is self-contained and can be plugged into an electrical outlet, you can use it anywhere.
Best-in-class cleaning and drying performance. Tired of dishes not getting cleaned? Tetra cleans 50% more dishes using 40% less water in 55% of the time than the leading countertop dishwasher.
Save water and reduce plastic waste. Using Tetra to wash your dishes for just one meal a day instead of handwashing will save over 15,000 liters of water in just one year. And because it uses concentrated cleaning chemistry cartridges (think “ink jet“), large plastic detergent containers are a thing of the past.
Award-winning and highly anticipated. Featured on NBC’s TODAY Show and CBS’ Innovation Nation, Tetra was also named CES 2019 Best of Innovation Honoree Award in the Home Appliance Category, the 2019 Best of CES award by Bestproducts.com, the 2019 CES Best of the Best award by Best Reviews, and named a 2019 CES Top Pick by Mashable.
So easy to operate, you'll fight to do the dishes.
Simply plug Tetra into a standard electrical outlet. After a meal, remove Tetra’s clear lid by lifting it up and off, add three liters of water, then load up to three complete place settings. Choose your cleaning setting: STANDARD for plates, bowls, glasses, and silverware; ECO/SHORT for quick washes; STEMWARE for delicate items like wine glasses or champagne flutes; PLASTIC for items like baby bottles and bowls that typically melt in other dishwashers; and FRUIT/VEGETABLES to wash produce and other household items without detergent.
To ensure Tetra cleans better than any other dishwasher (portable or built-in), it uses a first-of-its-kind custom dosing and multi-chemistry cleaning cartridge system (think ink jet printers) that delivers the optimal amounts of prewash, enzymes, and spot removal. Replacement packs are $8.99, similar to what other premium detergent brands cost.
When your dishes are done drying, remove the greywater tank, unscrew its lid, and dump out the wash water. It is environmentally-safe. You’ll love the results. And you’ll save water and energy.
Better cleaning power requires a custom approach.
Think about it. The soap or detergent you use now to wash your dishes, whether it’s by hand or in a dishwasher, is a made to do an ok job on a variety of items and situations. That means the same chemical mixture is used to clean an oily pan or a delicate red wine glass. In addition, when detergents’ components (prewash, enzymes, and spot removal) are mixed together in one solution and delivered at one temperature, they actually lose cleaning effectiveness. It’s no wonder why some pans take multiple washes and stemware comes out spotted with lipstick residue!
Here’s how Tetra’s detergent cartridge system works.
Heatworks joined forces with BASF, a globally leading chemical supplier to the cosmetics, detergent and cleaner industries, to create a first-of-its-kind dosing and multi-chemistry cleaning cartridge system for Tetra that delivers optimal amounts of prewash, enzymes, and spot removal. Your dishes will come out sanitized and clean, and you won’t have to replace cartridges for at least 20+ loads. Each detergent cartridge system will cost $8.99. This is similar to other premium detergents, however it is subject to change.
Tetra cleans 24% better than the leading under-counter dishwasher using a premium detergent brand.*
* Graph shows detergency scores of Tetra’s detergent cartridge system compared to plain water; a full-size, under-counter dishwasher using leading detergent brand; and a full-size, undercounter dishwasher using a premium leading detergent brand. Testing was done using Official Journal of the European Council standards by a certified third-party lab.
It’s better for the environment, too.
Most detergents come in large plastic containers which are rarely recycled (only 9% of American plastics are recycled), and often end up in landfills or even worse, oceans. Also, if you closely examine the ingredients inside these existing dishwashing detergent containers, you will find that most of the liquid or powder detergent is comprised of inert material to prevent the cleaning agents within the formula from harming users. Just think of the huge carbon footprint caused when these large plastic containers filled with mostly with inert ingredients are shipped around the world! Tetra’s detergent cartridge system delivers concentrated formulas without any inert ingredients. This means less waste and smaller containers.
The above illustration compares the amount of chemicals used by Tetra’s detergent cartridge system to wash three full place settings versus one leading brand’s detergent tablet versus a leading detergent gel (filling both detergent cups).
Detergent components work best when delivered individually, at the optimal temperatures.
With Tetra’s detergent cartridge system, the optimal amount of each chemical is individually added at the optimal time and temperature. Your dishes will come out cleaner.
To order additional cartridges.
Tetra will notify you when there are five washes remaining. Simply go online and order another supply of cartridges. And don’t worry, the cost per wash is comparable to any premium dishwashing detergent. The used cartridges are recyclable.
Though it will fit under a standard upper cabinet, you will need to pull it away from the wall to lift the lid in order to load the unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
At this time, Tetra’s detergent cartridge system will only be available online. Each pack will cost $8.99. This pricing is similar to other premium detergents, however it is subject to change.
No, Tetra is designed to work exclusively with its own detergent cartridge system, a first-of-its-kind dosing and multi-chemistry cleaning cartridge system that delivers optimal amounts of prewash, enzymes, and spot removal based on each wash cycle selected. The cartridges will last for 20+ loads, and the system will alert you when there are five washes remaining so you can order replacements online.
Existing dishwashing detergent methodology is flawed in a variety of ways:
- From an environmental perspective, most detergents come in large plastic containers which are rarely recycled (only 9% of American plastics are recycled), and often end up in landfills or even worse, oceans.
- From a cleaning perspective, detergents that exist today have the same chemistry make up, whether you are washing fine wine glasses, dirty pots or plastics. Because of that, it is impossible for them to clean everything optimally.
- Finally, there is the problem of “overdosing” — a common trend that occurs when a user puts more detergent than is necessary because he/she feels like the dishes inside are “really dirty.” In a large dishwasher that uses a lot of water, this overdosing isn’t as big of a problem as it is with a self-contained countertop dishwasher which uses only 3 liters of water.
By partnering with BASF, a globally leading chemical supplier to the cosmetics, detergent and cleaner industries, to create a first-of-its-kind dosing and multi-chemistry cleaning cartridge system for Tetra that delivers exact amounts of chemistry needed without inert ingredients, our aim is to significantly reduce consumers’ waste and maximize Tetra’s efficiency. By using a concentrated formula, we will reduce carbon footprint around the world. Also, because the system delivers the optimal amounts of each chemical individually added at the optimal time and temperature, Tetra’s cleaning and drying performance is best-in-class.
Yes, the detergent cartridges will be recyclable. The exact plastic has not yet been finalized.
Tetra has five cleaning settings: STANDARD for plates, bowls, glasses, and silverware; ECO/SHORT for quick washes; STEMWARE for delicate glass items; PLASTIC for items like baby bottles and bowls that typically melt in other dishwashers; and FRUIT/VEGETABLES to wash produce and other household items without detergent. The quickest cycle is ECO/SHORT, and the wash cycle takes less than 30 minutes. Standard is the longest and still washes in less than an hour.
While Tetra will clean and sanitize items it washes, it does not have a “sterilization” cycle.
Yes, it has a drying fan, which will dry your dishes. In fact, in a recent third-party lab test, Tetra dried dishes better than a leading brand's undercounter dishwasher.
Since pewter is a soft metal with a low melting point, we recommend handwashing all pewter items. Washing them in Tetra (or any other dishwasher) can cause discoloration.
Yes, the tank is BPA free.
The detergent cartridge system uses food and environmentally-safe components that are found in today's dishwashing detergents. Also, the volume of the detergent in the water once the wash cycle ends is very diluted. It is safe to dump the water down your sink, in a plant, or on the ground.
We recommend that the user dump out the dirty wash water once the cycle ends and the dishes are removed. The chemicals found in the detergent will help to deter mold growth. In addition, the user will be able to access and clean inside the tank.
Yes, you will be able to buy replacement parts on our website. Those will be added to the site as the shipping date nears.

At this time, there are no different or additional racks available for Tetra.
Tetra was designed in the United States and Europe.
Like all dishwashers, Tetra has a filter screen inside the bottom of the unit to collect food particles and debris that may come off dishes during the wash cycle. This should be cleaned after every use by simply scooping off with your fingers anything that collects on top of the screen.
Although Tetra will work anywhere in the world, we are only allowed to ship to countries where it is certified. At the time it ships in 2022, it is likely that will only be in the United States. Canada’s certification requirements are the same as in the US; if you live in Canada and order Tetra, the product you receive will have 749 certification. We are working on additional certifications and will post those to our website as they occur.
As a start-up, we were thrilled when Tetra received the CES 2019 Best of Innovation Honoree Award in the Home Appliance Category. Over 200 articles were written about it, and it even appeared on the TODAY SHOW. In fact, over 25,000 people signed up to prebuy it!
When we announce preorder dates for any of our products, we look at all of the information we have at that time and make a best guess estimate. With Tetra, our team spent countless hours refining every aspect so that it could truly be a best-in-class machine. In addition, we were still working on getting the MODEL 3 Water Heater to market. Once that was done (it is now available for purchase on our website), we then turned our efforts to Tetra. We appreciate your understanding, support and patience, and are thrilled we can finally offer this preorder opportunity.
You will be charged the full price of Tetra and shipping at the time of placing your preorder. You may cancel this reservation within 15 days after placing the preorder, and we will refund your money.
We anticipate shipping Tetra by May 18, 2022, No Dirty Dishes Day. However, if we are unable ship the product on or before 12 months of your placing the order, we will process a full refund to you.
While cabinet heights vary, the typical distance between a countertop and an upper cabinet is 18 inches. Since Tetra is 17 inches tall, it should fit under most upper kitchen cabinets. This was a purposeful design choice based on our market research.
