Location: Charleston, SC | Partial remote considered
The electrical engineer is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the company’s technology as it pertains to the electrical space. He or she will be responsible for a large scope of technology, from board level components to high power conduction. The electrical engineer will require a high degree of self-management. The Electrical Engineer will interface with other disciplines, including mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, product management, and customer support. The position reports directly to the Engineer Manager. Heatworks is a fast paced, privately owned late stage technology startup, with blue-chip customers including GE, Kohler, Bosch, Miele, and many more. Accordingly, the candidate must possess the acumen, initiative, and ability to thrive in a start-up environment. This position can be a full-time, on-site position with benefits or depending on the candidate will consider part- or full-time, partially remote contract role.
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering and 3+ years’ experience or equivalent
- Proficiency in PCB design, Bill of Materials, and debugging using Altium
- Excellent communication and computer skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
- Experience with soldering (through hole and surface mount) and PCBA board assembly
- Digital design centered around microcontrollers and associated interfaces
- Analog design for signal conditioning of low frequency sensor data
- High power/high voltage design using triacs, mosfets, and relays with a focus on thermal management and safety
- Generation of files and support packages for PCBA manufacturing and test
- Maintenance of existing product electronics packages
- Development of in-house electronics for lab use
- Analyzing and presenting performance data to other teams and management

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for architecture, design, development, testing, and maintenance of safety, control, and power PCBAs used in the application of Heatwork’s patented Ohmic Array Technology. Applications include water heaters, steam generators, dishwashers, food grade potable water dispensing, and other commercial water heating applications. The Senior Electrical Engineer will interface with other disciplines, including mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, product management, and customer support. The position reports directly to the Engineer Manager. - Proficiency in PCB design, Bill of Materials, and debugging using Altium.
- Proficiency in a specialization area such as power systems design, IoT design, Product Realization.
- Excellent communication and computer skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio.
- Project management or team lead experience
- Experience with soldering (through hole and surface mount) and PCBA board assembly
- High power experience is preferable, but not required.
- Digital design centered around ST Micro and Microchip microcontrollers and associated interfaces
- Analog design for signal conditioning of low frequency sensor data
- Power system design using thyristors, relays with a focus on power supply up to 24kW
- Integrated PCBA Wi-Fi, Bluetooth hardware modules, software and debugging
- Raspberry Pi, Arduino based interface equipment, software, and UART communications
- Writing and analyzing design documentation for manufacturers and partners
- Maintenance of existing product electronics packages
- Development of in-house electronics for lab use
- Troubleshooting and debug of existing designs and prototypes
- Analyzing and presenting performance data to other teams and management
- Mentoring and collaboration among engineers and technicians
- Providing customer support as needed
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as required

He or she will be responsible for a broad scope of technology, from mechanical design to advanced analysis, including stress, flow, heat transfer, etc. The mechanical engineer will interface with other disciplines, including electrical, software, firmware, manufacturing and quality. The mechanical engineer will report to the Engineering Manager. - BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years’ experience
- Proficiency in CAD design using SolidWorks
- Experience with analysis, including: heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and stress analysis
- Experience with analytic tools, including FEA, CFD, etc.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Experience with electronics manufacturing processes
- Must be adaptable to a changing work environment
- Design, develop, prototype, test and deploy mechanical designs from component to system level
- Maintain mechanical designs and drawings
- Design experiments and tests to validate concepts
- Design and develop manufacturing processes for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components
- Communicates engineering project status to rest of company
- Evaluate final product’s overall performance, reliability and safety
- Maintains compliance with applicable government regulations
- Providing customer support as needed
- Performing other duties and responsibilities as required
- Limited travel may be required (<10%)
