Heatworks’ MODEL 3 Recognized as one of TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2018

Wow, what an amazing week Heatworks is having. Last Thursday, our Tetra Countertop Dishwasher won the home appliance top prize at CES 2019 Unveiled in New York. That same night, we received the Technology Development Award at the 2018 South Carolina InnoVision Awards Ceremony for our patented Ohmic Array Technology.

MODEL 3 tankless electric water heater wins awardAnd now today, our MODEL 3 Smart Water Heater has been selected as one of TIME Magazine's 2018 Best Inventions. This exclusive annual list recognizes 50 groundbreaking inventions that are making the world “better, smarter and even a little more fun”.

The MODEL 3 Smart Water Heater was recognized in the Sustainability & Social Good category, which honors Inventions that make the world a better place by solving social and environmental problems, such as boosting energy efficiency, saving water, reducing food waste and helping underprivileged communities.

Our proprietary (and now award-winning) Ohmic Array Technology is at the foundation of the MODEL 3, which is an internet-connected tankless electric water heater that provides instant, endless hot water at the user's desired temperature with unmatched purity, precision and performance. It uses graphite electrodes and advanced electronic controls in place of traditional metal heating elements that can rust and scale over time. Through advanced electronic controls, the naturally occurring minerals in water are excited, directly and efficiently heating the water. And, since water is used as the heating element, the hot water that comes from the MODEL 3 is purer than water from any other water heaters available in the industry today.

The accompanying, groundbreaking mobile app also enables the user to monitor the amount of water used each day, change the temperature of their shower or limit the length of showers taken by members of the household.

“MODEL 3 was born out of a desire to holistically redesign the way water has been heated for the first time in more than a century,” said Heatworks Founder and CEO, Jerry Callahan. “What resulted was a product and technology that has the capacity to impact people’s lives in ways far beyond water heating, giving them access to efficient, clean and precise water anywhere. To be recognized by the historic TIME Magazine for this accomplishment is an achievement in its own, and I couldn’t be prouder of our Heatworks team.”

The unique water heating process coupled with the MODEL 3’s smart capabilities, creates a consistent and precise experience for any user. Since the MODEL 3 is 99% energy efficient, users will get more hot water and reduce the overall cost of heating their family’s water by about 40%. For the average American family, that’s $240 back each year. It also comes with an industry-leading 6-year full unit exchange warranty.

According the TIME Magazine, "We solicited nominations across a variety of categories from our editors and correspondents around the world, as well as through an online application process. Each contender was then evaluated on key factors, including originality, creativity, influence, ambition and effectiveness. The result: 50 groundbreaking inventions that are changing the way we live, work, play and think about what’s possible."
